Are you like me, sitting in front of a computer most of the day?

Not good, if by the end of the day you are too stiff to even move.

BUT, there are plenty of really simple, energy boosting office exercises you can do right at your desk, without losing a bit of productivity. Why not give a few of these a try:

Wrist

  1. Extend your arm in front of you, placing your palms up,
  2. With the other hand, grab your fingers.
  3. Gently stretch your hand down, bending your wrist backwards. Feel the stretch in your forearm?

Wrists and Forearms

  1. Press hands together in front of chest. Keep elbows bent and parallel to the floor.
  2. Gently bend wrists to the right and left.
  3. Repeat several times.

Back

  1. Sit straight in your chair and place right arm behind your right hip.
  2. Twist to the right. Hold for a few seconds.
  3. Repeat on the left side.

Calves

  1. While sitting, lift up your legs onto the balls of your feet and then release.
  2. Continue until your legs and calves are tired.
  3. Repeat every 10-15 minutes for an hour.

My favorite, very favorite one, sounds far too simple to be effective. But, I bet you'll be amazed at how good it feels.

Ideally, you'd do this exercise with a small ball, hand-held size. Don't worry if your office supply "starter kit" didn't include one. If you need, improvise with a crumbled up piece of paper, or any other soft object that's not going to do your keyboard in if it comes crashing down on it..

Take whatever it is you have and throw it in the air, well above your head. Play catch with it for awhile. Doesn't that make your arms and shoulders feel great! Keep doing it during the day and you'll really be surprised how well it loosens your muscles. And if you work in a "cube", all that much better, engage some co-workers in your game!

This is great... I know a lot of people who sit in front of computers. Sounds like these would make for a nice break :)

Thanks glassvisage! Please feel free to pass the article along. I know I need a reminder every once in a while to follow my own advice!
